Rosh Hashanah or Jewish New Year

Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the New Year according to the Jewish calendar and opens a period of reflection that culminates in Yom Kipur. Its name means «head of the year» and the celebration lasts for two days. Among its best-known symbols is the sound of the shofar, traditionally made from a horn. Tables are filled with foods of special meaning, such as apples with honey, which express the wish for a sweet year. During these days it is also customary to wish «Shaná Tová»: a good year.
