International Left-Handers Day: the dance of the left hand

Today, left-handers reign. Not because of their majority — barely one in ten — but because of their originality. For centuries, their way of writing was seen as an oddity, even as a defect that had to be corrected. Today we celebrate the opposite: the ability to think, create and live from another perspective. It is no coincidence that names such as Leonardo da Vinci, Marie Curie or Jimi Hendrix have come from that minority that sees the world “upside down”.

International Wolf Day: wolves, between howls and legends

In forests and plains, there is another protagonist of this day: the wolf. Feared in stories, admired by ecologists, this animal does not only howl at the moon: it regulates the very life of its territory. Without wolves, ecosystems lose their rhythm. 13 August is its moment to remind us that the balance of nature also depends on them.

International Armadillo Day: the armoured knight of the tropics

And while people in the north talk about wolves, another symbol walks through the American jungles and savannahs: the armadillo. Wrapped in its natural armour, it looks like a traveller from another time. It can roll up until it becomes almost invisible and, as if it were a magic trick, hold its breath for minutes.

13 August reminds us that difference is a strength, that nature holds unexpected guardians and that, sometimes, beauty lies in what is made by hand.
