30,000 people celebrate 150 years of Estrella Damm by the sea in Barcelona
Barcelona’s coast became a huge festival in front of the Mediterranean this Saturday. Around 30,000 people filled Parc del Fòrum to celebrate Estrella Damm’s 150th anniversary in an eight-hour day of concerts, popular culture and festive atmosphere that completely transformed the area.
The party, named “La Festa del Segle i Mig”, brought together some of the most recognisable bands and artists on the current Catalan scene. Names such as Oques Grasses, The Tyets, Mushka, Els Catarres, Ginestà, 31 FAM and Love of Lesbian took to the two stages set up at the venue, with the latter delivering one of the night's most moving moments in the midst of their farewell tour.
The audience responded from early afternoon. Ginestà opened the day and, as the concerts progressed, the Fòrum turned into a collective karaoke session, with thousands of people singing songs such as “Jenifer”, “Coti x Coti” and “Club de fans de John Boy”. Oques Grasses' final performance turned the celebration into a night full of symbolism for much of contemporary Catalan music.
Music was not the only star of the show. The organisers wanted to reinforce the popular element of the celebration with casteller performances by the Ganàpies de la UAB and the Descargolats de l’EEBE, as well as a large food area with food trucks and themed spaces dedicated to the brand's history.
The event closed with fireworks over the sea, in an image that summed up the tone of the day: thousands of people in front of the Mediterranean celebrating a brand deeply linked to Barcelona and Catalan popular culture.
The celebration is part of the events marking the 150th anniversary of Estrella Damm, founded in Barcelona in 1876. The company has spent months promoting concerts, cultural activities and special events across Catalonia and other cities, strengthening a historic relationship with Barcelona's cultural life.
