65 million to strengthen the cultural network in the municipalities of Madrid
The Comunidad de Madrid has approved an investment of 65 million euros to build new cultural centres and renovate facilities in 57 towns in the region, as part of the Programa de Inversión Regional.
Local culture will receive a decisive boost in the coming months thanks to a regional investment of 65 million euros. The plan includes 78 projects in 57 municipalities in the Madrid region, from large urban centres to small mountain villages, with the aim of ensuring that all residents have modern spaces in which to enjoy theatre, music or community activities.
The Regional Investment Programme (PIR) will be responsible for channelling these funds, which will make it possible, among other actions, to build new centres in Leganés, Torrejón de Ardoz and Villaviciosa de Odón. At the same time, historic facilities will be refurbished in places such as Robledillo de la Jara, Madarcos and Prádena del Rincón, where cultural infrastructure needed updating. One example of this effort is the Juan Prado de Valdemoro theatre, which has just unveiled a thorough renovation: 460 new seats, remodelled boxes and improvements to the stalls after an investment of close to 180,000 euros. This venue, opened in 1987 and named in tribute to the local painter, is now a symbol of the municipality's cultural life.
The PIR, with an overall budget of 1,000 million euros, is thus establishing itself as the main instrument of cooperation between the Community of Madrid and its councils. Its purpose is clear: for culture to reach every corner of the region on equal terms, contributing both to residents' well-being and to the social and economic dynamism of each municipality.
