Swimming-pool season opens with 15 outdoor venues in Barcelona
Barcelona is beginning to set summer in motion with one of the most welcome pieces of news when the heat is intense: the city will have 15 outdoor municipal swimming pools this season. Five are already open and the rest will open progressively during June, spread across eight districts.
The fact matters more this year because the facilities will operate without drought restrictions. Following the end of the decree that had conditioned water use, the pools will be able to open normally and at full capacity, something crucial for people staying in the city during the hottest months.
The first five to open are CEM Parc de la Ciutadella, CEM Sant Sebastià, Piscines Bernat Picornell, CEM Can Toda and CEM Bac de Roda. During June they will be joined by other venues such as Piscines Municipals de Montjuïc, Can Dragó, Bon Pastor, Trinitat Vella, Can Caralleu, Guinardó, la Clota, Tennis Vall d’Hebron and Llac de la Creueta del Coll.
The great new feature of 2026 is in Montjuïc. The pool at Pistes Municipals de Tennis Montjuïc joins the catalogue after completing its refurbishment, bringing the municipal outdoor network to 15 facilities.
Hours will depend on each facility, but several summer facilities will operate on an extended schedule: Monday to Thursday, from 11:00 to 19:00, and Fridays, weekends and public holidays until 20:30. In the case of Piscines Municipals de Montjuïc, the season will run from 8 June to 6 September, with general admission of 7.92 euros and a reduced rate for under-15s and older people.
All pools will be open seven days a week and accessible to people with reduced mobility. Some also have green areas, children’s spaces or areas designed for spending the day, making them a genuine alternative to the beach when the asphalt begins to accumulate heat.
For many families, young people and older people, these pools are not only a leisure plan. They are a way of getting through the summer without leaving Barcelona, finding shade, cooling off and bringing down the day’s temperature a little. In a city where tropical nights arrive ever earlier and homes do not always help people rest, having a public pool nearby can make the difference between surviving the heat and enjoying a little of the summer.
