Goodbye to Discos Revolver: a historic chapter in Barcelona's music scene comes to a close
After more than 30 years as an essential reference point for vinyl and live-music lovers, Discos Revolver, the iconic shop on Tallers Street, will close its doors for good this July.
Founded in December 1991, this emblematic shop has been a sanctuary for collectors, musicians and generations who found in it a unique space to share their passion for analogue culture.
The announcement of its closure, made through its Instagram page, has caused great sadness in the local community. Despite the revival of vinyl and a loyal base of ‘die-hards’, the shop has been unable to compete with digitalisation and the rise of platforms such as Spotify. Its owner, Nuria Arso, acknowledges that ‘the business is not what it was 25 years ago’, although it continues to hold on thanks to the commitment of its public.
As a consolation, its sister shop, Revólver Records, also located on Tallers, will remain open and has just been recognised with APECAT's Fonograma 2024 award as one of Catalonia's best independent record shops. However, the closure of Discos Revolver represents a hard blow to local music and neighbourhood culture.
Throughout July, customers will be able to say goodbye with special discounts in the traditional closing-down sale. With this, Barcelona loses an emblematic space which, beyond being a shop, was a true cultural hub that will be difficult to replace.
