Akira Cómics de Madrid plans expansion to lead Europe in 2026

Akira Cómics, the emblematic Madrid shop awarded two Eisner Awards, has revealed its ambitious expansion plan: by the end of 2026, it will become the largest specialist comic and fantasy bookshop in Europe.

The premises, located in Madrid, will grow from the current 1,080 square metres to more than 1,500, spread across two floors of more than 750 metres each. The redesign will make it possible to expand by more than 400 square metres and completely renew its facilities.

One of the main focal points will be the ‘Neo Tokyo’ district, dedicated to manga, which will unveil immersive decoration and new spaces, following the model of other themed areas such as ‘Notre Dame’ and ‘Baker Street’.

The refurbishment seeks to improve visitors’ experience and consolidate Akira Cómics as a European benchmark. The shop, which this summer made history by becoming the only one in the world with two Eisners, thus strengthens its position in the sector.
