Alcobendas comes alive with carnival music, parades and Brazilian percussion
Alcobendas dives into the carnival spirit with music, parades and workshops, kicking off a week of festivities for all ages.
From 11 to 18 February, Alcobendas celebrates Carnival with a programme packed with activities: dances for older people, a large urban parade, Brazilian percussion masterclasses and the traditional «burial of the sardine».
The festival opens with a dance evening for older people under the slogan «Those wonderful years», with music from the 1960s to the 1980s, in the covered hall of Centro La Esfera. On Friday there will be a carnival party with DJ Fark Lamm and prizes for the best costumes.
The main event is Saturday's Grand Carnival Parade: the procession will begin and end in Plaza Mayor, and before it starts, workshops for children will be organised on water-based make-up, balloon modelling and making jester hats.
On Tuesday there will be open Brazilian percussion classes at Centro Bloco do Baliza, and Carnival will end on Wednesday with the traditional «burial of the sardine», with a procession, the burning of a symbolic sardine and a tasting.
