Salmonella alert in two batches of fuet sold in Spain
The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition has issued an alert over the presence of salmonella in two batches of Can Duran brand extra fuet. The recommendation for consumers is clear: if the product is at home, it must not be consumed.
The alert concerns Can Duran extra fuet sold in 170-gram plastic packs and kept at room temperature. The affected batches are 262014422, with an expiry date of 24 July 2026, and 262014423, expiring on 1 August 2026.
The incident was communicated through the European Food Alert Network, after French health authorities reported the presence of salmonella in the product. AESAN has passed the information on to the autonomous communities so that the withdrawal of the affected batches from sales channels can be checked.
Initial distribution has been reported in Aragon, Catalonia, Navarre and the Valencian Community, although it cannot be ruled out that the fuet may have reached other areas through subsequent redistribution. For this reason, the recommendation is to check the batch even if it was bought outside those communities.
Anyone who has this product at home should check the label before consuming it. If it matches one of the affected batches, the most prudent course is not to open it, not to eat it and to follow the instructions of the point of sale or the health authorities.
Salmonella can cause symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, abdominal pain or headache. If the affected product has been consumed and any of these symptoms occur, it is recommended to visit a healthcare centre.
The alert does not affect all products from the brand, only the batches indicated. Even so, this kind of warning often creates doubts among consumers because it is a food that is very common in many fridges and cupboards, especially in sandwiches, quick dinners or snacks.
The case is a reminder of the importance of checking food alerts when a problem is detected in products that have already been distributed. On this occasion, the key action is simple: look at the batch, check the expiry date and avoid consuming it if it matches the alert.
