Fairer rent for young people: Catalonia launches new aid of up to €250 per month

From 30 June to 11 July, people aged 35 or under who meet the requirements may apply for monthly assistance of between €20 and €250 to pay for their usual home or room.

These grants, created as an alternative to the national Bono Alquiler Joven, are not awarded on a first-come, first-served basis but through a points system: the most vulnerable situations will be prioritised according to social and economic criteria. The aim is clear: to ease rental pressure and facilitate young people’s independence in a context where access to housing is becoming increasingly difficult.

The amount will depend on the financial burden that rent represents in relation to the applicant’s income. In addition, people renting a room may apply individually, without taking the income of the people they live with into account.

To qualify, applicants must be registered at the dwelling, have income below the established threshold and not pay rent above the limits set for their geographical area. Applications can be submitted through the tramits.gencat.cat portal or at housing offices.
