Around 8,000 people demonstrated in central Madrid in defence of public healthcare
Protesters demanded more public-health funding and an end to privatisation.
A demonstration in defence of the public healthcare system was held in the centro de Madrid. According to the authorities, around eight thousand people took part. The march ended at the Puerta del Sol.
During the demonstration, participants called for strengthening primary care, reducing waiting lists for operations and diagnostic tests, as well as greater investment in mental health. The march concluded at the Puerta del Sol.
The protest was supported by trade unions, social organisations, and left-wing parties. For its part, the regional government maintains that healthcare spending exceeds 11,000 million euros and remains at high levels.
