Apple presents its new iPhones today: what is expected at 19:00
Apple is holding its major autumn presentation this Wednesday 9 September. The event will begin at 19:00 Spanish mainland time from Apple Park in Cupertino and can be watched live through the company’s website, the Apple TV app and YouTube. Apple has named the event internationally Surprise and shine, while its Spanish page uses the slogan “Un rayo de wow”.
The company has not officially announced which products will appear on stage, but leaks in recent weeks point to a particularly important presentation. The two virtually certain models are the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which should become Apple’s new conventional high-end phones.
Expected new features include the new A20 Pro chip made using 2-nanometre technology, a smaller Dynamic Island and camera changes. One of the improvements most frequently repeated in the leaks is a variable aperture for the main camera, although uncertainty remains over whether it will arrive on both Pro models or be reserved for the Pro Max.
But the device capable of stealing the spotlight would be entirely new. Apple is preparing, according to information published before the event, to unveil its first foldable iPhone, in book format: an outer screen of approximately 5.5 inches and an inner one of close to 7.8. The latest leaks point to the name iPhone Duo, although Apple has not confirmed it and the name iPhone Ultra has also been used provisionally in recent months.
The leap would be significant because it would mean Apple entering a market in which Samsung, Google, Honor, Huawei and other manufacturers have been competing for years. It would also foreseeably be the most expensive iPhone in the range: the latest reports put its starting price in Estados Unidos at around 2,000 dollars, although the presentation will have to be awaited to learn official prices and availability. Its commercial launch could take place later than that of the Pro models, even in October.
The watches will be the other important part of the presentation. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 are expected, with improvements in performance, battery life, sports tracking and new health-related features. The Series 12 could also bring back a version with a ceramic case.
The list could be completed with AirPods 5. Earlier information points to two versions, one of them with active noise cancellation. By contrast, future AirPods fitted with cameras are not expected until 2027.
The major absence may prove almost as striking as the new products: a conventional iPhone 18 is not expected tonight. Apple would have split its main launch calendar for the first time, reserving the iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second generation of the iPhone Air for spring 2027. If confirmed, September would be concentrated on the most expensive models in the family.
Nor does it seem likely that the event will become a presentation of new Macs. The computers Apple still has in development for 2026 are expected in another launch window, while this Wednesday’s event will focus on iPhone, Apple Watch and possibly AirPods.
The presentation begins at 19:00 in España. Until then, Apple only officially confirms that the event will take place; models, features, prices and sales dates remain information anticipated by leaks and specialist media and will have to be confirmed during the keynote.
