Work begins to transform the area around Park Güell into a major green corridor

Refurbishment work begins on Torrent del Remei and Farigola. Pavements are being widened and vegetation is being added. The project aims to improve access and biodiversity. An investment of 2.1 million and a year of work. Park Güell and its surroundings will change radically.

Remodelling work on carrer del Torrent del Remei and carrer de la Farigola, located between Sant Eudald and Móra d’Ebre, is already under way in the Coll neighbourhood. This intervention forms part of the 2023-2027 investment plan to renew Park Güell and its surroundings, with a budget of 2.1 million euros and an expected duration of one year.

The main objective is to facilitate access to the park and make the routes more natural. To this end, pavements will be widened on both Torrent del Remei and Farigola, ensuring accessibility. In addition, new vegetation will be planted and electricity lines will be placed underground, improving the area’s urban appearance.

The project includes the construction of a new gabion wall and the stabilisation of the slope with geogrid, moving the building line. This will create a green corridor between Creueta del Coll and Park Güell, intended to promote local biodiversity.

The works will be divided into four distinct sections. The first will cover Farigola, between Móra d’Ebre and Sant Eudald, where a small triangular square resolves the change in level. The second section will focus on Torrent del Remei, from Sant Eudald to the access to Park Güell. Work will then continue as far as Riu de la Plata and, finally, as far as the descent to Sant Marià.

Since 2015, investment to improve Park Güell and its surroundings has multiplied by more than five. Between 2023 and 2027, nearly 39 million euros are expected to be allocated to renewing both the interior of the park and the outdoor spaces, with the aim of minimising negative impacts and protecting residents.

The funding comes entirely from the activity generated by Park Güell, which has regulated access through BSM since 2013. This regulation seeks to preserve heritage, ensure coexistence with residents and schools, and promote more sustainable, planned tourism.

Of the 39 million planned, 13.7 will be invested in improving the park’s exterior areas in the districts of Gràcia and Horta-Guinardó. Some measures are already under way or at the project stage, focused on renewing paving, pavements and other elements of public space to increase comfort and neighbourhood uses.
