How Barcelona Metro works affect your journeys this August
Getting around Barcelona by Metro this August will continue to require a little more planning. Several lines remain partially closed, one station remains shut and one of the network's main interchanges is still out of service because of the improvement works TMB is carrying out during the summer, when passenger numbers are lower.
The main disruption remains on L1. Until 28 August, no trains run between Florida and Plaça de Sants because of a comprehensive renewal of the infrastructure. The service operates normally on the rest of the line and TMB has provided special buses to cover the interrupted section. It is one of the summer’s most significant interventions, as it affects the line with the highest number of users across the whole network.
The automated L9 and L10 Nord lines also remain affected. Improvement works require a partial interruption to service for several weeks, as part of TMB’s infrastructure-modernisation plan for this summer. The expectation is for these disruptions to end before the start of the school year.
These works are joined by the closure of Verdaguer station on L4, where renewal works continue. In addition, the corridor connecting the L1 and L3 lines at Catalunya station remains closed until 6 September in order to renew its facilities and complete the removal of asbestos behind the cladding.
Throughout this period, TMB recommends checking the service status before starting a journey and using the alternative routes signposted at stations. Passenger information and special bus services have been reinforced at the points most affected in order to make travel easier.
The summer works form part of the Metro network’s usual renewal strategy, taking advantage of weeks with lower demand to carry out work on tracks, stations and interchanges. Although the works cause temporary inconvenience, they aim to improve service reliability, increase safety and prepare infrastructure used every day by hundreds of thousands of people travelling around Barcelona and its metropolitan area.
