This is the new 22-storey hotel redefining the entrance to Barcelona
The entrance to Barcelona via Diagonal Avenue now has a new protagonist. It is aparto Diagonal Suites, a 22-storey tower almost 100 metres high located in Esplugues de Llobregat, next to Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. With 526 rooms and a broad range of services, the building becomes the first major completed part of the Porta Diagonal urban development, one of the projects set to transform this metropolitan approach.
The complex combines the operation of a hotel with accommodation designed for medium- and long-term stays. In addition to welcoming tourists, it is designed for students, researchers, healthcare professionals and people who need to remain in the Barcelona area for several months. Its location next to Zona Universitària and close to centres such as Universitat de Barcelona, UPC, ESADE and IESE responds precisely to this growing demand.
The building has traditional rooms and studios equipped with kitchens, as well as a permanent reception desk, restaurant, private parking, gym, study rooms, cinema and communal spaces. One of its greatest attractions is the infinity pool on the rooftop, which offers a panoramic view over Barcelona, Collserola and the coast.
A new Casa Carmen establishment has also opened on the ground floor, while the upper floors include rooms for meetings and celebrations with 360-degree views. The intention is for the building to function as a space where guests can carry out a large part of their daily lives, beyond a conventional hotel stay.
The opening is the first visible step of Porta Diagonal, an area that aims to become a new hub for innovation, health, universities and business activity between Barcelona and Esplugues. The project envisages future offices, new facilities and a second tower intended mainly for companies linked to research and technology.
Beyond adding a new hotel establishment, the opening reflects how the area around Diagonal is changing in its connection with Baix Llobregat. The combination of hospitals, universities, research centres and new property developments is shaping a new metropolitan hub that aims to become one of the main centres of activity in the coming years.
