Barcelona and Madrid closer together: the AVE will reach 350 km/h and open a station at La Sagrera

The Government has announced a major modernisation of the high-speed network: the AVE line between Barcelona and Madrid will reach 350 km/h and will have a new station at La Sagrera, key to the north-east of the city. The aim is to reduce the journey to under two hours and increase capacity on Spain's most heavily used rail route.

According to the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, this upgrade will place Spain among the countries with the highest commercial speeds in the world. The increase will allow more trains per day and more efficient management of the tracks without the need for new construction.

The implementation of this improvement will be gradual, accompanied by the renewal of infrastructure and urban access routes. In Barcelona's case, La Sagrera will become a new hub for high-speed rail and urban transport, boosting mobility in the city.
