Snow and rain warning in Madrid: changes to routine and caution in the mountains

The start of the week in Madrid is marked by unsettled weather. The Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (Aemet) has issued a yellow warning for snowfall in the Madrid region, a situation that may affect both daily travel and outdoor activities, especially in the mountains and areas close to the Sistema Central.
From Monday afternoon until the early hours of Tuesday, the forecast points to persistent rain and scattered showers throughout the region. The intensity will be greater during the afternoon, when isolated thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. In higher areas, snow will once again take centre stage: Aemet warns of accumulations of up to five centimetres in the Sierra, with the snow level between 900 and 1,100 metres at the end of the day.
The snow warning will continue on Tuesday, although the snow level will gradually rise from 1,000 to above 1,700 metres as the morning progresses. Temperatures, somewhat lower than usual for this time of year, will tend to recover little by little, although light frosts will persist on the summits. Rain, though less intense, may appear in the early hours, keeping skies cloudy or overcast across much of the Madrid region.
By Wednesday, conditions will tend to stabilise. Aemet forecasts cloudy intervals giving way to high cloud at the end of the day, with rising maximum temperatures, especially in higher areas. Even so, light frosts will remain in the Madrid Sierra. On Thursday, stable conditions will be the general trend, with mostly clear or clear skies and no precipitation, although some scattered frosts on the summits cannot be ruled out.
The Sierra de Madrid, a usual refuge for those seeking nature near the capital, becomes the epicentre of the weather warning in these days. Its roads and trails may be affected by snow, requiring caution from hikers and drivers.
