Community of Madrid reduces its healthcare debt to Quirónsalud to €427 million

Centres such as Fundación Jiménez Díaz, Móstoles, Villalba and Valdemoro are part of this mixed management system, in which public–private collaboration remains fundamental.

Since Isabel Díaz Ayuso joined the regional government, the pace of payments has accelerated, allowing a debt that exceeded 1 billion in 2019 to be reduced. In recent months, payments running into the millions have been approved to settle overdue amounts and comply with court rulings.

The evolution of the debt is being closely monitored by Fresenius, the owner of Quirónsalud, after years in which the liabilities rose to more than 1.2 billion.

Although the reduction brings relief to the public finances, the healthcare management model continues to generate debate. The balance between funding, efficiency and quality of care remains one of the major challenges facing the system in Madrid.
