Badalona takes the first step towards building the new Lloreda library
Lloreda is moving forward with a new library that will transform both the neighbourhood’s cultural offering and one of its public spaces. The Ayuntamiento de Badalona has begun processing the project, valued at 2.8 million euros, which will also include the creation of a new square next to the Riu Corb promenade.
The facility will occupy two floors in the lower part of a building between Rambla de Sant Joan and Avinguda de Lloreda. The main entrance will be on Passeig del Riu Corb itself, allowing the library to become part of the neighbourhood’s everyday life and making it easier to reach from nearby streets.
The work will not be confined to the inside of the building. The area around the entrance will be redeveloped to create a new square, with the aim of providing an open space for neighbours to meet and extending the activity generated by the future library out into the street.
The project now enters a public consultation phase lasting 30 working days. During that period, residents and organisations will be able to submit objections or suggestions before the proposal continues through the administrative process.
If this stage does not require significant changes, the next step will be to put the construction work out to tender. No opening date has yet been set, but approval of the project brings a facility long awaited by the neighbourhood closer.
The new library is intended to be more than a place to consult or borrow books. Facilities of this kind have increasingly incorporated workshops, family activities, study areas and technological resources, functions that make them places for everyday use by very different audiences.
For Lloreda, the project will also have a direct effect on the urban space. The combination of library and square could create a new hub of activity around Rambla de Sant Joan and Avinguda de Lloreda, in an area where the new facility will bring together cultural activities and neighbourhood life.
The work thus brings two interconnected transformations: a modern public service inside the building and a new square at its entrance. If the project now gets through the objections period without major changes, Lloreda will be one step closer to opening both spaces.
