Badalona to install 615 cameras to strengthen security in all neighbourhoods
Badalona is preparing to make a major upgrade to its security system. Starting in 2027, 615 surveillance cameras will be installed across all the city's neighbourhoods and industrial estates, as part of a project aimed at strengthening crime prevention and improving traffic management.
Ayuntamiento has already put out to tender a contract of nearly 27 million euros, valid until 2032. In addition to installing the devices, the project includes creating a new control room and another crisis-coordination room at Guardia Urbana premises, as well as maintaining the system for five years.
Of the planned cameras, 488 will be for public-safety tasks and 127 for traffic control. If deadlines are met, the contract will be awarded before the end of this year and the first equipment will begin to be installed during the first months of 2027. Implementation will be gradual until the entire network is complete.
The new system will allow Guardia Urbana to have a broader view of the city and strengthen surveillance in areas where it is not possible to maintain a permanent police presence. The intention is to facilitate a faster response to incidents and improve coordination of emergency services.
Video surveillance has become an increasingly common tool in cities to support police work and manage mobility. In Badalona, this deployment will place the municipality among those with a more extensive network of urban cameras in Catalunya, within a strategy that combines technology, police presence and renewal of public-safety systems.
