Badalona transforms two Bufalà streets with more pavements and green areas
Works to redevelop Doctor Robert and Jacint Verdaguer streets are already under way in the Bufalà neighbourhood of Badalona. The project covers 6,039 square metres and has a project budget of close to €1.7 million to completely renew two streets with accessibility problems, deteriorated paving and few green areas.
The intervention does not affect only the carriageways. The project covers the section of Doctor Robert that connects Plaça Jacint Verdaguer with Avinguda de Bufalà, the square itself, and Jacint Verdaguer between Sant Jordi and Mestre Bretón.
One of the most visible changes will be the increase in space allocated to pedestrians. Pavements will be widened and accessible routes created to eliminate discontinuities that currently make getting around difficult, particularly in an area with steep slopes that is used daily to access homes and facilities.
Plaça Jacint Verdaguer will also change its layout. The project envisages turning it into a space better integrated into the route between the two streets, incorporating new areas for staying and improving the pedestrian connection at a point where different levels of the neighbourhood converge.
The refurbishment also includes new paving, street furniture, renewal of lighting and various municipal services. Trees and landscaped areas will be added to increase the presence of vegetation in streets that the municipal project itself currently describes as spaces with poor environmental quality.
The work continues improvements previously carried out on other sections of Doctor Robert and also reaches the surroundings of Can Boscà, the municipal farmhouse that houses economic development and employment offices. The aim is for this entire corridor ultimately to share similar accessibility and urbanisation criteria.
The project was finally approved at the end of 2025 and the works were awarded this spring. The contract sets an execution period of ten months from the effective start of the works, so disruption on Doctor Robert and Jacint Verdaguer will continue for several months.
The City Council has not yet published a detailed timetable of impacts on traffic or parking for each phase. Those who regularly drive or park on these streets will need to pay attention to the temporary signage as the works progress through the different sections.
