Badia del Vallès begins its biggest urban transformation in 50 years

Badia del Vallès has launched the largest urban and economic expansion in its history. Work will begin on 24 November after more than a decade of waiting and represents an investment of €7.1 million, the result of collaboration between the council and private companies.

The transformation will take place on an 11-hectare plot next to the Riu Sec, near Sabadell's commercial area. The project includes the opening of two supermarkets, Bonpreu-Esclat and Lidl, which will create around 100 jobs in a municipality where unemployment exceeds 13%. Both establishments could open in approximately one year.

Another key element is the construction of a student residence, strengthening Badia's connection with the UAB and its identity as a university district. In addition, a municipal space reserved for shops will be provided, and the possibility of building a public residence for older people is being studied. This is a long-standing demand in a municipality with an ageing population and a high proportion of social-service users.

The project coincides with the deregulation in 2026 of the 5,200 officially protected homes that make up the city's entire housing stock. This change will open the door to new types of residents and strengthen the connection with the metropolitan area.

As for mobility, a new two-way road will be built connecting Badia with the Ikea area in Sabadell. New roundabouts will improve access from Barberà del Vallès, supporting traffic flow and commercial development.

The work also includes improvements to lighting, roads, cycle lanes and green areas. After five decades without expansion, the city is thus beginning a new phase marked by growth, renewed services and a more important role within the Vallès.
