17 school playgrounds open to the public in Barcelona during Easter without registration
The Easter holidays change the use of urban spaces in Barcelona. From 28 March to 6 April, a total of 17 school playgrounds will be open to the public free of charge, offering an accessible leisure alternative for children, teenagers and families.
The municipal “Patis oberts” initiative provides access to these spaces without prior registration. People simply need to go at the times set for each centre, where staff will be responsible for supervising the use of the facilities and ensuring a safe environment.
The playgrounds are distributed across all districts, from Ciutat Vella to Sant Martí, including Gràcia, Eixample and Nou Barris. Opening hours vary by centre, combining morning and afternoon slots, with weekend opening in some cases.
The programme also includes playgrounds at municipal nursery schools, which will open on Saturday mornings with spaces adapted for younger children, strengthening the offer for families with small children.
This proposal responds to the need for safe, free places during days when there are no classes, especially in a city where access to play spaces can be limited.
Over the years, “Patis oberts” has become one of the initiatives most valued by families. Turning educational centres into spaces for community life outside school hours helps to energise neighbourhoods and strengthen the social use of existing facilities.
