Barcelona opens the Jardín Geológico with free entry
Barcelona unveils a new outdoor learning space with the opening of the Jardín Geológico in the Zona Universitaria. The project, led by the Universitat de Barcelona, offers a journey through the history of the Earth without leaving the city.
Located between Menéndez y Pelayo street and Joan XXIII avenue, the space covers nearly 1,800 square metres and will have free access. The initiative seeks to bring geology closer to all audiences through an open and accessible setting.
The route is organised into several thematic areas that make it possible to explore different geological eras, learn about the planet's internal structure and understand the relationship between the natural environment and human evolution. Rocks, materials and information panels guide the experience.
The project has been funded with European funds and forms part of a broader strategy of scientific outreach in the city. The official opening is scheduled for 22 April.
The proposal turns an urban space into a meeting point for science, education and leisure.
The new garden adds another free and educational leisure option in the area, accessible to both residents and students. It also reinforces the use of public spaces with outdoor cultural activities. In the medium term, it may attract more visits and energise the university environment.
