Barcelona accelerates: a new era for the Mitja Marató and the Zurich Marató

Barcelona is gearing up for a new chapter in its two major running events: the Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks and the Zurich Marató Barcelona.

With 2026 in sight, the city and RPM Sports, the organising body for the next three years, are working to turn these races into more than a sporting event: a genuine city-wide celebration with European reach.

After a record-breaking 2025 edition, the goal is ambitious: to exceed 30,000 runners in the Mitja Marató Barcelona by Brooks (15 February) and 27,000 in the Zurich Marató de Barcelona (15 March). But the challenge is not only numerical. Greater neighbourhood involvement is sought through initiatives such as Hot Spots, where organisations, businesses and clubs will cheer at key points along the route, turning the city into a vibrant stage.

The runner experience is also taking a leap forward: more sustainable refreshment stations, less plastic, reusable cups and logistical improvements at access points and start areas. All of this is framed by an ambitious 2026–2030 Sustainability Plan that aims to make these races an example of environmental commitment.

In addition, La Parunda, the post-race party that celebrates effort with music, community and energy, will return. Because in Barcelona, running is only the beginning.
