Barcelona hosts the 2026 Goya Awards: ‘Los domingos’ leads with 13 nominations

The countdown to the 2026 Goya Awards has already begun. The Academia de Cine has unveiled the list of nominees, placing Alauda Ruiz de Azúa’s ‘Los domingos’ as the leading favourite with 13 nominations. Close behind are Óliver Laxe’s ‘Sirât’, with 11, and ‘Maspalomas’, with 9 nominations. The ceremony will take place on 28 February at the Auditori del Centre de Convencions Internacionals de Barcelona (CCIB).

Other standout films include ‘La cena’, with 8 nominations, ‘Sorda’, ‘Los Tigres’ and ‘El cautivo’, with 7 each, and ‘Romería’, which reaches 6. This year, the gala will be presented by Luis Tosar and Rigoberta Bandini, promising a night full of surprises and emotion.

The 40th edition of the Goya Awards includes more than 25 categories, among them Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score and awards for leading and supporting performances. ‘Los domingos’ competes in key sections such as Best Film, directing, original screenplay and all the main acting categories.

‘Sirât’, selected to represent Spain at the forthcoming Oscars, stands out in directing, screenplay, music, cinematography, editing and special effects. ‘La cena’, ‘Maspalomas’ and ‘Sorda‘ are also competing for the Best Film award, while names such as Ángela Cervantes, Antonia Zegers, Nora Navas and Susana Abaitua are in contention for Best Leading Actress. In the male category, Alberto San Juan, Jose Ramón Soroiz, Mario Casas and Manolo Solo are among the favourites.

Anticipation is growing in Barcelona, which becomes the epicentre of Spanish cinema with an edition promising intense emotions and close competition among the year’s major titles.
