Barcelona will introduce €90 fines on Via Laietana from 27 April for driving without permission
Barcelona will begin fining vehicles €90 from 27 April for travelling up Via Laietana without authorisation, while residents and authorised groups can already register their number plate.

Travel in the heart of Barcelona is changing radically: from 27 April, any vehicle travelling up Via Laietana without authorisation will receive an automatic fine of 90 euros. The new enforcement cameras are already installed and ready to detect infringements in the uphill lane, reserved exclusively for specific groups.
The City Council has launched an information campaign so that residents and authorised users can register their number plates in advance. From 23 March and for five weeks, residents of the Gòtic, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera and la Barceloneta neighbourhoods, as well as businesses and individuals entitled to drive there, can arrange their permits online, in person or by telephone.
Access in the mountain-bound direction is restricted to city buses (routes V15, 47 and neighbourhood bus 120), taxis, emergency services, officially registered residents, people with reduced mobility who have a parking space in the area, car park users and customers of garages, hotels and guesthouses in the area. In addition, delivery vehicles will only be allowed as far as Plaça d'Antoni Maura during very specific time slots.
Over the coming weeks, households in the affected neighbourhoods will receive detailed information on how to apply for authorisation. The council's aim is to avoid unnecessary fines and ensure that those who really need to drive there can do so without problems.
Via Laietana, one of Barcelona's most iconic thoroughfares, has undergone a profound urban transformation in recent years. The redesign prioritises public transport and local travel, aiming to reduce private traffic and improve air quality in the historic centre.
