Barcelona to expand its cycle lane network with 32 new kilometres by 2026
Barcelona will expand its cycling network with 32 new kilometres and an investment of 28 million to connect neighbourhoods and reduce emissions.
The Ayuntamiento de Barcelona has unveiled a new plan to expand the network of bike lanes, which will add 32 kilometres of cycling infrastructure throughout 2026. This measure is part of the sustainable mobility strategy and aims to increase safety for cyclists, improve connections between neighbourhoods, and reduce pollution.
The new sections will prioritise areas with high traffic density and links to public transport stations. The council also plans to install more secure bicycle parking and strengthen existing signage.
With this initiative, Barcelona will reach more than 300 km of cycling network, consolidating its position as one of the European cities with the most extensive infrastructure dedicated to active mobility.
