Monestir de Pedralbes celebrates 700 years with an institutional opening and immersive art
Barcelona’s heritage celebrates a historic date with the start of the 700th anniversary of Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes. The opening event, scheduled for Thursday 26 March at 17:00, marks the start of a special programme that will run throughout the year.
The city’s mayor will lead the opening, accompanied by municipal representatives such as Albert Batlle, Xavier Marcé and David Escudé. The day includes the opening of the immersive exhibition ‘Tocar l’ànima. Els murals de la capella de Sant Miquel’, which brings 14th-century paintings to the public, highlighting their artistic value and connection with the innovations of the time. Through interactive resources and a 3D immersive room, it makes it possible to explore the murals and their restoration process dynamically and in detail.
The event will be completed by a concert from the Cor de Noies de l’Orfeó Català, adding a musical dimension to an occasion centred on art and history.
Because capacity in the chapel of Sant Miquel is limited, media access will be restricted during the main event. However, a prior slot has been provided for accredited image-taking and news coverage.
Founded in 1326, the monastery is one of the city’s best-preserved Gothic ensembles and a cultural reference point. Its anniversary celebrates not only its history, but also its current role as a meeting place between heritage, art and urban life.
