Barcelona breaks a historic record: hottest June since 1914
Barcelona has ended June as the hottest month of June since records began.
According to data from Observatori Fabra, the average temperature has stood at 26 °C, surpassing every record since 1914 and leaving behind the previous record from June 2003. This figure is 4.7 °C above the historical climate average, confirming the growing impact of climate change.
The extreme heat has offered no respite: this June has accumulated more days with temperatures above 35 °C than any other June on record. On 30 June, the Observatori Fabra automatic station recorded 37.9 °C, which, if confirmed, would be the highest temperature ever measured in the city in June, above the 2019 record of 37.7 °C.
In addition, the heat has been accompanied by a complete absence of rainfall: not a single day of significant rain throughout the month. June's rainfall total has been 0 litres per square metre, reigniting the drought situation after March's rains.
With these figures, June 2025 is not only becoming the hottest in Barcelona's history, but also a new warning about the climate emergency facing the city.
