Barcelona City Council has launched the Basic Municipal Emergency Plan in the alert phase because of deteriorating sea conditions. The increase in wave height, which may exceed 2.5 metres, has led authorities to take preventive measures to protect people and urban furniture.

As part of this protocol, Barcelona residents are advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid any access to beaches. It is also recalled that it is forbidden to approach breakwaters and enter the water while the red flag is flying, which has already been raised on all the city’s beaches.

The Urban Guard has intensified its presence along Barcelona’s coast, blocking access to breakwaters and areas where waves break, in order to minimise risks to people. These actions seek to prevent accidents and material damage in view of the forecast adverse sea conditions.
