Ayuntamiento de Barcelona activated the Pla Bàsic d’Emergència Municipal at alert phase this Monday at 10:26 due to the worsening state of the sea. The decision follows weather forecasts announcing a significant increase in wave height, exceeding 2.5 metres along Barcelona’s coastline.
In response to this situation, the authorities have recommended that the public exercise extreme caution and avoid all access to beaches. They have also reiterated the ban on entering the breakwaters and swimming while the red flag is flying, which has already been raised on all the city’s beaches.
The Guardia Urbana has deployed officers along the coast to prevent access both to the breakwaters and to areas where the waves break, with the aim of minimising risks to people and preventing damage to street furniture.
