Barcelona turns parc de les Glòries into an open-air stadium for the Women's Champions League final
This 24 May, women's football will also be played in Barcelona, even though the ball rolls in Lisbon.
Glòries Park will be transformed into a large open-air stand with the installation of a giant screen to follow the UEFA Women’s Champions League final between FC Barcelona and Arsenal.
At 18:00, all eyes will be on the José Alvalade stadium, but the culé spirit will beat strongly from the city. The City Council, through the Institut Barcelona Esports, invites residents to experience this historic final together, in a green, urban and recently renovated setting.
It is not just a match. It is the possibility of a European treble, one more step towards establishing Barcelona as the capital of women’s sport. And it is also another example of how football can leave stadiums and occupy public space, with no barriers or sold-out tickets.
After the successful screens at Plaça Catalunya and Vall d’Hebron on previous occasions, the city is taking football to the streets once again. Because when the women’s Barça team plays, all of Barcelona wants to be in the front row.
