Barcelona sleeps below 25 degrees again after weeks of muggy weather

In Zona Universitària, Meteocat has recorded a low of 20.9 degrees. The figure contrasts with the many recent nights in which much of Barcelona remained above 25 even during the coolest hours.

In the higher areas, the relief has been even more evident. The area around Observatori Fabra has been close to 20 degrees, while the centre has retained the heat accumulated during the day more effectively.

The difference is especially noticeable when compared with the previous night. In El Raval, Thursday’s low had been 27.5 degrees, a reading typical of a torrid night and far removed from the temperatures reached at dawn today in other parts of the city.

For those who have spent weeks sleeping with fans, air conditioning or open windows, losing four or five degrees changes the night considerably. Bedrooms can cool down more easily and the first hours of the morning become more bearable again.

The drop has also spread across Catalunya. In areas of the Pyrenees, thermometers have fallen more sharply, while in much of the coast lows remain above 20 degrees, within the tropical-night category.

The early morning thus brings an almost forgotten feeling this summer: waking up in Barcelona to readings close to 20 degrees. After so many stifling nights, just a few hours of cooler air have been enough to notice the change.
