Barcelona faces a very hot weekend with tropical nights

Barcelona faces the first summer weekend with intense heat, sunshine and nights that make rest difficult. Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June will bring fully summer-like conditions, with highs around 32 and 33 degrees and lows that will not fall below 24 or 25 degrees in much of the city.

Saturday will be a day of mostly clear skies and heat from the outset. The temperature will rise quickly during the morning, and midday will be the most uncomfortable period for walking, exercising or getting around in areas with little shade. On the coast, humidity may increase the feeling of mugginess.

The night from Saturday to Sunday will not bring much relief either. Barcelona will have another tropical night, with high readings in neighbourhoods near the coast and in dense areas where asphalt and buildings retain heat for longer.

On Sunday, coinciding with the official start of summer, the thermometer could rise a little further. The forecast points to a sunny, stable and particularly hot day, with highs close to 33 degrees and a heavier apparent temperature in the middle hours of the day.

No significant rainfall is expected during the weekend. The weather will be favourable for beach plans, terraces and outdoor activities, but it will also make it necessary to organise schedules better if people want to avoid heatstroke, especially with children, older people or pets.

The recommendation is to seek shade, drink water frequently, avoid exertion between midday and mid-afternoon, and use sun protection. On beaches and seafront promenades, the heat may seem more bearable because of the breeze, but radiation will remain high and prolonged exposure can take its toll.

The episode comes in a context of high temperatures across much of Spain. Barcelona will not be the most extreme area, but it will experience a weekend clearly warmer than usual, with an atmosphere confirming that summer has arrived without a gentle transition.

For those with plans in the city, the key will be to adapt their schedule: beach or a walk early, rest during the harshest hours and quieter activities at the end of the afternoon. This weekend, Barcelona will continue to run at a summer pace, but the heat will shape every journey, every terrace and every night at home.
