Barcelona unveils ‘Llums de Nadal’: five designer creations for unique, renewed Christmas lighting
Barcelona leaves conventional lighting behind and commits to art, design and identity.
Under the name “Barcelona Llums de Nadal”, the city is launching a new model of Christmas lights that do more than decorate: they tell a story, that of a city that thinks, designs and lives with originality.
Five designer creations, produced by some of the most recognised studios on the local creative scene, will mark a before and after in the festive urban aesthetic. For the first time, light becomes a visual discourse in such emblematic spaces as the renewed Via Laietana —with proposals by Nahtrang Studio and Marta Cerdà—, Plaça Catalunya (ARTEC), Gran Via (A.P.O.) and Carrer Aragó (SMLXL + MA-MA). On Passeig de Sant Joan, the vibrant imaginary world of Brosmind, unveiled in 2023, will continue.
This project, the result of a competition promoted by the City Council and ADI-FAD, reflects the desire to establish Barcelona as an international capital of design at Christmas too. With an investment of €1,300,000, “Llums de Nadal” does more than illuminate; it transforms. Because in Barcelona, light does more than shine: it is designed.
