Barcelona unveils the refurbished Sant Genís workshops for metro line L3

The expansion works at the Sant Genís workshops and depots, which serve Barcelona Metro’s L3, have concluded following an investment of 18 million euros. The facilities have been modernised to respond to the notable increase in users on the line and prepare for future rises in demand.
The refurbishment includes an expansion of 3,000 square metres on one floor of the workshop, thanks to the opening of a new space. Two 200-metre tracks and a third, shorter one for introducing rolling stock have been added, along with an adjoining area to improve operations.
Energy efficiency has also been a key feature of the project. A total of 519 photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 250 kWp have been installed, which will make it possible to save up to 105 tonnes of CO per year.
The new facilities will make it possible to offer a better service and speed up train maintenance. The workshops are expected to enter operation in the coming weeks.
