A station for 300 cars a day: how Barcelona’s new electric charging hub will work
Barcelona is preparing to open its first public ultra-fast charging hub, infrastructure that will allow electric cars to recharge in just 15 minutes. The project seeks to reduce waiting times and make daily use of electric vehicles easier in the city.
The station will be located next to the Ronda de Dalt and will be able to handle up to 300 charging sessions a day. In each session, drivers will be able to recover up to 400 kilometres of range, changing the practical use of the electric car for both urban journeys and longer trips.
The space will cover around 900 square metres and will allow up to 12 vehicles to charge simultaneously. All the energy will be from renewable sources, reinforcing the aim of reducing the environmental impact of transport in the city.
Works will begin this summer with municipal investment of 2 million euros. The facility will be integrated into the public Endolla Barcelona network and is expected to come into operation before the end of the year, with rest areas for users.
Barcelona already has more than a thousand charging points and leads the rollout in Spain. This new station seeks to improve turnover and avoid waits at times of high demand.
