€600 for switching to an electric motorbike: Barcelona accelerates its green mobility plan.

Barcelona City Council has presented an incentive scheme to accelerate the transition to electric mobility. From March 2026, residents who scrap their combustion-engine moped and purchase an electric one will be able to apply for direct aid of 600 euros, which will cover approximately between 16% and 40% of the vehicle's price, depending on the model.

The plan, endowed with 15 million euros over the next four years, aims to renew up to 20,000 mopeds and significantly reduce emissions associated with this type of vehicle. The measure is aimed especially at young people and people with lower incomes, although companies based in the city will also be eligible.

In addition, the council will promote the expansion of the battery-swapping network for electric mopeds with 64 new points in car parks and petrol stations. Municipal aid will reach up to €45,000 per point (up to 60% of the cost), on condition that the facilities remain open to the public for at least four years.

The initiative forms part of the municipal climate strategy through to 2030 and adds to other measures to encourage more sustainable mobility, reduce the carbon footprint and modernise Barcelona's fleet of two-wheeled vehicles.
