Barcelona adds seven new fire engines to reinforce the Bombers
Barcelona strengthens its emergency service with the addition of seven new light urban fire engines. The City Council has allocated 3.47 million euros to this renewal, which will improve the Bombers' response both in the historic centre and in other hard-to-access parts of the city.
The new vehicles are designed to travel more easily along narrow streets, such as those in Ciutat Vella or Gràcia, where larger fire engines have greater difficulty manoeuvring. Thanks to their compact size, crews will be able to reach fires and other emergencies more quickly in densely built-up areas.
Each fire engine is around six metres long and includes a tank with capacity for 1,400 litres of water. It also has a pumping system capable of delivering up to 2,000 litres per minute at low pressure and 400 litres per minute at high pressure, adapting to different types of operation.
The presentation of the new fleet coincided with the assessment of the forest-fire campaign that began on 22 April. By the end of July, the Bombers de Barcelona had attended two forest fires, affecting an area of 0.48 hectares, and had carried out 208 preventive patrols in Collserola and urban-forest interface areas.
The City Council stresses that these figures reflect the importance of prevention, while noting that August and September remain particularly sensitive months because of the fire risk. It is therefore keeping surveillance arrangements active and calling on the public to take extra precautions and comply with the restrictions in force in natural areas.
The renewal of the fleet forms part of the municipal strategy to modernise emergency services and adapt their resources to the needs of an increasingly complex city. Investing in more agile, better-equipped vehicles makes it possible to reduce response times and strengthen the safety of both response crews and residents in risk situations.
