Barcelona to install a hundred nests for wild bees in 25 of the city's parks
Barcelona strengthens its commitment to urban biodiversity with a new initiative that puts wild bees at the centre of climate action.
The City Council, in collaboration with Granja San Francisco, will install one hundred nests for bees and solitary wasps in 25 of the city’s parks and gardens, coinciding with the celebration of International Bee Day.
These nests will encourage pollination, improve flowering and air quality, and help with natural pest control. The action forms part of the municipal Pla Clima objectives, which promote green spaces as refuges for wildlife in the heart of the city.
The nests will be distributed across Barcelona, although districts such as Sarrià – Sant Gervasi and Horta-Guinardó will have more sites, in landmark parks such as Putxet, Laberint d’Horta and Turó Park.
The initiative will also include monthly workshops open to the public from May until February 2026, teaching people how to care for these essential pollinators and build shelters for them.
