Barcelona will install a giant screen in Glòries for the women’s Champions League final

The initiative will allow thousands of supporters to watch one of the most important matches of the season together without leaving the city. The space will open when the match begins and will once again turn Glòries into a meeting point for Barça supporters, as happened at previous European finals.

Barça Women face another continental final with the chance to win their fourth Champions League and continue to extend a historic era for the club. On the other side will be Olympique de Lyon, the competition's most decorated team and one of the blue-and-red side's main European rivals over the past decade. It will be the fourth continental final between the two teams.

From the City Council, Sports Councillor David Escudé has defended the installation of the screen as a way of increasing the visibility of women's sport and bringing this type of occasion closer to all citizens. The municipal commitment fits with the strategy of making Barcelona an international benchmark for women's sport and events open to the public.

The combination of good weather and the pre-summer atmosphere suggests there will be a large turnout around Glòries. At previous public broadcasts, hundreds of people filled the park from hours before kick-off to follow the final as a group, amid flags, shirts and the atmosphere of a football fiesta.

Parque de les Glòries has become in recent years one of Barcelona's major open spaces for civic events. Its strategic location and the urban transformation of the surrounding area have strengthened its role as a cultural, sporting and social meeting point. The broadcast of the women's final once again places this space at the heart of the city's collective life.
