Barcelona to invest 10 million in renovating 13 sports facilities by 2027
Barcelona will modernise 13 sports facilities with an investment of 10 million. There will be a new sports centre in Poble-sec and upgrades to key fields.

Barcelona City Council, governed by the PSC and supported by ERC, has reached an agreement to invest 10 million euros in refurbishing 13 municipal sports facilities between 2025 and 2026. The measure is in addition to the 21 million already earmarked for sport in 2026, consolidating one of the city’s largest recent commitments to modernising sports facilities.
The project includes the creation of a new municipal sports centre in Poble-sec, located in hall 2 of Fira de Barcelona in Montjuïc. The planned investment is 3 million euros, and the facility will open in 2027, becoming one of the district’s major sports facilities.
In addition, the plan provides for renovations to grass pitches, lighting, changing rooms and surfaces at sports centres throughout the city, many of them with infrastructure dating from the Olympic era that urgently needs updating. According to ERC, the aim is to modernise facilities that “have become obsolete” and ensure that municipal facilities meet growing demand.
Among the most notable measures are:
1.8 million to refurbish and extend the changing rooms at CEM Guinardó.
1.7 million to replace the grass at La Teixonera football pitch and La Foixarda rugby pitch.
1.1 million to refurbish the changing rooms at CEM Mar Bella.
1.1 million to cover the outdoor pool at the Can Toda complex.
The remaining budget —1.3 million— will be allocated to other improvements: lighting at Institut Escola Industrial, refurbishments at the Pau Negre-Parc del Migdia and Mar Bella sports centres, works at the Horta velodrome, the Joan Serrahima stadium and the La Foixarda rugby pitch. The grass at the municipal pitches in Canyelles, Nou Barris and Menorca will also be renewed, and the flooring of the Mar Bella sports hall will be replaced.
With this investment, the council seeks to strengthen the network of sports facilities, improve users’ experience and respond to residents’ growing demand for places to play sport.
