Barcelona backs local talent with new television formats
Barcelona is strengthening its audiovisual industry with two new programmes driven by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, in collaboration with betevé. The initiative aims to provide real opportunities for students and emerging professionals.
The main project, Episodic, will allow 34 students from 12 centres to take part in creating a series based on El principi d’Arquímedes, by Josep Maria Miró. The teams will work through all stages, from scriptwriting to editing, with a premiere planned for autumn 2026 and international screenings.
Meanwhile, Barcelona i jo will feature interviews with key figures from the local cultural scene, with actor and director Mario Gas as the first guest. The series will revisit key moments in the city’s cultural history through its leading figures.
Both projects are part of a municipal plan to boost the audiovisual sector, with measures focused on training, innovation, and collaboration with educational centres and professionals.
This initiative strengthens Barcelona’s creative ecosystem, creates opportunities for young talent, and consolidates the city as a cultural hub. For students, creators, and the audiovisual sector, it provides a direct boost in employment, visibility, and international reach. In the short term, the projects will begin development during 2026. In the medium term, the aim is to position these productions at festivals and expand the impact of local talent both within and beyond the city.
