Barcelona will bring the World Cup final to a giant screen in Les Corts
Barcelona is preparing to experience the Football World Cup final in the street. This Sunday 19 July, the City Council will install a giant screen in Les Corts to follow Spain’s match, an event that could bring together thousands of supporters several hours before kick-off.
The screen, eight metres wide by five high, will be placed on Martí i Franquès street, at Baldiri i Reixac, in the heart of Zona Universitaria. The broadcast will begin with the TVE signal and the match will kick off at 21:00.
The venue will open to the public from 19:00. During the two hours before the match there will be music and interactive games on the screen, while the televised build-up can be followed from 20:30.
Spain will contest the final after beating France 2–0 in the semi-finals. Its opponent will emerge from the match between England and Argentina, scheduled for Wednesday night, when the second team to fight for the title will be decided.
Access to the space will be organised through two signposted checkpoints. One will be located on Menéndez i Pelayo street and the other on Martí i Franquès street itself. Entry with alcoholic drinks or glass bottles will not be allowed.
Les Corts thus replaces Plaça de Catalunya, where thousands of people watched the 2024 European Championship final. The chosen location has already hosted concerts for the Mercè festivities and has a large space for organising mass events.
With this event, Barcelona brings back major open-air sports broadcasts. In recent years, the city has also installed screens in Les Glòries park to follow the European finals of Barça’s women’s team.
Those who want to find a good place should arrive early and use public transport, as high attendance is expected and there may be occasional disruptions around Zona Universitaria before and after the match.
