Barcelona prepares a 2026 full of unique exhibitions and cultural celebrations

More than 40 exhibitions and activities in municipal museums. The Monestir de Pedralbes celebrates 700 years. La Virreina reveals its annual programme. Discover events such as the Nit dels Museus and Barcelona Dibuixa. Art and history take over the city in 2026.

Barcelona is preparing for a vibrant 2026 with more than forty exhibitions and activities in its municipal museums. The agenda highlights the celebration of the 700th anniversary of the Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes and the eagerly awaited annual presentation of the Virreina Centre de la Imatge.

The programme includes landmark events such as the Nit dels Museus, which will bring together the leading museums in the city and metropolitan area on 16 May. On 7 March, the Museu Endins event will allow visitors to discover spaces normally restricted in 17 museums, guided by experts and sector professionals.

The Creació i Museus series, within the Festival Grec, will merge the creativity of resident artists with museum collections. In addition, the Barcelona Dibuixa festival, organised by the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona and the Museu Picasso, will offer more than 40 drawing and illustration workshops in more than 30 spaces during the weekend of 17 and 18 October.

The Arxiu Històric de la Ciutat de Barcelona will pay tribute to Agustí Duran i Sanpere with an exhibition from 12 March to 30 September, marking 50 years since his death. The Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona will present exhibitions such as Laboratori daguerreotípic de la família Blanxart in February, Barcelona i el cel: globus, aeroplans i fotografia from June, and Marta Povo. La poètica de la llum from November.

The Biblioteca Pública Arús will maintain the exhibition dedicated to Josep Llunas i Pujals until 23 January. The Centre d’Art Contemporani Fabra i Coats will host exhibitions such as Com pedres als palmells, brases i flama from February and an exhibition by Patricia Esquivias in May.

The Castell de Montjuïc will open its doors to new exhibitions in spring. La Capella will offer several exhibitions, including the Beques Guasch Coranty until January and others between January and September. The DHUB will commit to innovation with Digital Impact from October and an exhibition on Asunción Bastida from November.

The Museu Frederic Marès will present Montserat, mare i terra until May and Subirachs sacre from November. La Model will address themes of Catalan history and society throughout the year. The Monestir de Santa Maria de Pedralbes is preparing a special programme for its 700th anniversary.

The Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món and the Museu d’Història de Barcelona will also add exhibitions and activities to the agenda. The Museu Picasso will explore Picasso's relationship with Mediterranean ceramics and other themes until 2027. The Virreina Centre de la Imatge will unveil its annual programme on 14 January.
