La Virreina hosts a major free exhibition on Godard until October
From 28 March, Barcelona hosts the free exhibition La fraternidad de las metáforas, the largest exhibition devoted to Jean-Luc Godard. It can be visited until 4 October at Palau de la Virreina and brings together more than 200 pieces exploring his work and his relationship with the city.
The exhibition unfolds across seven thematic rooms covering different stages of the filmmaker's career. One of its central threads is his view of armed conflicts, with particular attention to the Spanish Civil War as a key reference in his imagination.
The tour begins with the Europa Quo Vadis room, which connects this historical context with the cinema of Godard and his generation. It also includes the influence of Espoir, the film by André Malraux shot in Catalonia, as the starting point for many of his reflections.
The exhibition has been curated by Manuel Asín and has the collaboration of heirs and collectors close to the director. Among the works, Film socialisme (2010) stands out, reinforcing the link between Godard's universe and Barcelona.
In addition to its content, free admission makes this exhibition one of the season's most accessible cultural plans. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 11 am to 8 pm, right on La Rambla, making it easy to include in any tour of the city centre.
At a time when Barcelona's cultural agenda is embracing open, large-scale proposals, this exhibition reinforces the role of places such as La Virreina as meeting points between the public and contemporary creation. Beyond the figure of Godard, the exhibition proposes a way of looking at cinema — and history — from the city, bringing together culture, memory and urban experience in a single tour.
