Barcelona reduces night-time violence but sees cases involving drugs and weapons soar

Barcelona's nightlife in 2025 shows a notable transformation: physical and sexual violence in leisure venues has fallen, but the presence of drugs and bladed weapons is rising. Just 20 of the 73 neighbourhoods account for most nightlife activity requiring police surveillance, with areas such as Vila Olímpica, Raval, Gòtic and Eixample standing out.

According to recent data, reports of sexual assaults have fallen by 11.4% compared with 2024, most of them involving groping inside or outside nightclubs. Fights have also decreased, with a 6.4% fall in reports of intentional injuries. However, arrests for fights have risen by 17.7%, thanks to cooperation between Mossos d'Esquadra, Guardia Urbana and private security, who quickly alert 112.

Arrests of men for assaults on women in nightclubs have grown by 8.1%, driven by protocols that speed up the police response. At the same time, incidents involving bladed weapons have increased by 22% in nightlife venues. Even so, drugs are more common than weapons: for every report involving a bladed weapon, there are six for possession of narcotic substances, with cocaine and marijuana on the rise.

In total, reported offences in neighbourhoods with nightlife have fallen by 12%. Theft has declined by 12% and violent robberies by 14.8%. The Mossos have reinforced patrols and identity checks, keeping riot police on duty at night to guarantee safety.

Despite the reduction in crime, the perception of insecurity among Barcelona residents remains high and continues to be one of the main public concerns in 2025.
