Barcelona cuts speed-camera fines by 20% in 2025 and the ranking surprises

In 2025, Barcelona recorded a notable fall in speeding fines. The city’s ten most active speed cameras imposed 20.6% fewer penalties than in the previous year, according to municipal data collected up to 12 December. In total, these devices went from 167,550 to 133,036 fines, amounting to 34,514 fewer penalties in just one year.

The speed camera on Meridiana Avenue, 563, on the inbound carriageway to Barcelona, remains top of the fines ranking. However, its activity has fallen significantly: from 34,652 fines in 2024 to 23,542 in 2025, a decrease of 32%.

Second place is now held by the speed camera on Via Augusta, 331, also on the inbound carriageway to the city, with 19,994 penalties. It is followed by the device on Diagonal Avenue, 671, with 17,551 fines. Meanwhile, the camera on the Ronda de Dalt at Nou Barris, which was the second most active last year, drops to fourth place with 15,774 penalties, a fall of 47.7%.

Barcelona’s main access roads, such as the Meridiana, Via Augusta and Diagonal, account for most of the fines. These arteries carry traffic from Vallès, Baix Llobregat and other metropolitan areas, explaining their prominence in the ranking.

Municipal sources attribute the reduction in penalties to a change in drivers’ behaviour. Wider dissemination of information about the locations of speed cameras would be encouraging more cautious driving, especially at the most closely monitored points.

This phenomenon would also explain the entry of new cameras into the top 10 and the changes in position from the previous year. Some devices, less well known to drivers in 2024, gained prominence in 2025, while others lost weight in the ranking.
