Barcelona records a record sea temperature in July

According to data provided by meteorologist Diego Lázaro, the water reached 27.1 °C, exceeding by 0.7 °C the previous record set in July 2022, another exceptionally warm month.

The prolonged heatwave that began in June sent sea temperatures soaring, and although the final days of the month brought some atmospheric instability, it was not enough to cool the sea. In fact, historic weekly peaks were recorded at the beginning of July, consolidating the upward trend.

Experts warn that this thermal anomaly is not only a symptom of climate change, but also a risk factor for the coming months. With the sea warmer than usual, the energy available for the formation of more intense and persistent storms in autumn increases.

The figure confirms growing concern over the evolution of the climate in the Mediterranean, where each record surpasses the previous one at increasingly short intervals.
